Michael P. Peterson

CRYSTAL FALLS — Michael Patrick Peterson, “Kikey,” age 67, of Crystal Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at his home.

Born on March 18, 1958, in Crystal Falls, Mike was the son of the late George and Celia (Mindok) Peterson. He was a lifelong resident of Crystal Falls, graduating from Forest Park High School in 1976 before attending Northern Michigan University and Bay College. Mike married Barbara Anderson on July 24, 1982, in Crystal Falls.

Mike was a member of the 1975 Class D State Championship football team and earned all-conference basketball honors. He spent many years coaching his son’s youth basketball teams, umpiring youth baseball, and refereeing junior high and JV basketball. Mike was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and member of the Crystal View men’s golf league.

After college, Mike used construction skills gained from his Uncle George to start his own company, Peterson Builders, which he successfully ran for 15 years. He concluded his career at Carey Contracting, working as a production coordinator in residential and commercial construction.

Despite countless projects at home and camp (Panola Plains, Deer Lake, and Way Dam), he led a balanced life. Mike always made time for Barb, enjoying cooking, pontoon rides on Way Dam, and their annual Florida trips with Dobe and Lori. He was a proud grandpa who loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barb; sons Patrick (Maria) Peterson of Crystal Falls and Erik Peterson of Crystal Falls; grandchildren Laine, Valerie, and Grant Peterson; sister Winnie Reeve of Kotzebue, Alaska; brother Paul (Kim) Peterson of Bremerton, Wash.; brother-in-law Al (Char) Anderson; sister-in-law Lori Anderson; nieces and nephews Robb, Kurt, Brad, Jolene, Tim, Jeanna, Saul, Serah, Silas, Shelly, and Meleri; and many extended family and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, George and Celia; a brother, Max; infant sister Charlotte; brother-in-law Dwaine “Dobe” Anderson; his mother and father-in-law, Gilbert and Evelyn Anderson; and special uncle, George “Chickee” (Angie) Mindok.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 8, at the United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls. A memorial service will follow at noon at the church. The Rev. Lance Crevier will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall.
