Warren J. Unger

KINGSFORD — Warren J. Unger, 89, of Kingsford, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain.

Warren was born May 6, 1936, in St. Paul, Minn., son of the late Walter and Eve (Rauch) Unger. He graduated from St. Norbert High School in Green Bay, Wis., in 1954 and then attended Iowa State University’s Dairy Science Program.

Warren married Lola Jacobson on Oct. 26, 1957, at Sacred Heart Church in Aurora, Wis. She preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 2024. Warren held several positions over the span of 40 years with his family’s dairy business, Pine Mountain Dairy, and he was, notably, one of the region’s last milkmen.

In his earlier years, Warren played fast pitch softball, coached Little League baseball and enjoyed bowling and golfing. He also shot trap league at the sportsmen’s club and entered several trap shooting tournaments. Warren was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family camp.

Those who knew Warren best knew that he was a jokester at his core and enjoyed laughing and sharing stories from his many adventures of childhood through his adult years. He had a love of history that he shared with his children and grandchildren and spent much time at family gatherings joining his brothers in recounting their antics with friends and family alike. Warren’s love of family, quick wit and ability to include everyone in the joke will be greatly missed.

He is survived by three children, Lori (Mike) Feira of Kingsford, Dave (Dawn) Unger of Oshkosh, Wis., and Alan (Lori) Unger of Breitung Township; two brothers, Clyde Unger of Spread Eagle, Wis., and Richard (Julie) Unger of Appleton, Wis.; three sisters-in-law, Janet Doucette of Norway, Diane Anderson of Norway and Mary Ann (Dan) Kreski of Homestead, Wis.; six grandchildren, Amy (Kyle) Volkmann, Kevin (Megan) Feira, Derek (Kayla) Unger, Deidra (Colton) Fernstrum, Lindsay (Steve) Rigoni, and Kristin (Zach) Dorothy; eight great-grandchildren, Hadley, Jack, Avery, Mae, Nora, Anthony, Claire, and Alanna; two great-grandchildren on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Warren was also preceded in death by a brother, Jim Unger; a sister-in-law, Nancy Unger; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Doucette and Richard Anderson.

Private family services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
