Bayshore Arts Center presents ‘Junie B. Jones JR: The Musical’

MARINETTE, Wis. — Bayshore Arts Center, the community theatre located on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Marinette Campus, invites audiences of all ages to join the spirited and spunky Junie B. Jones as she navigates the ups and downs of first grade in “Junie B. Jones JR: The Musical,” a performance packed with heart, humor and high-energy fun.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. today through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Herbert L. Williams Theatre on the UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus.

Join Junie B. on her first day of first grade, where many changes are in store: Junie’s best friend Lucille has found new best friends and Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. While in Mr. Scary’s class, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard, and she may need glasses. Add in a friendly cafeteria lady, an intense kickball tournament and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and first grade has never been more exciting.

Directed by Jackie Nutter, this production brings together a talented cast of young performers whose energy and enthusiasm light up the stage.

“Directing for the first time is an intimidating task,” Nutter said. “While the story already being written is a huge help (of course), bringing it to life using one’s own creative vision can be daunting. Any anxious feeling immediately left the building on the night of the first readthrough when I saw the excitement on the kids’ faces. I always left rehearsal feeling renewed and inspired, if not a little tired, too! I continue to be blown away by the talent each one of these performers has.”

Nutter also expressed deep gratitude for her assistant director, Kristena Schmitz:

“To say ‘assistant’ feels inadequate as I very much consider her my equal in this production. Her support, creativity and ability to be the bad cop (when needed!) to my good cop was a pillar of support I cannot stress the appreciation of enough,” Nutter said.

Tickets are $22 for adults; and $18 for ages 14 and younger and adults older than 55. Tickets can be purchased online or at the box office. The box office is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Wednesday and 60 minutes before each performance.

Bayshore Arts Center is home to the Theatre on the Bay, Children’s Theatre, the West Shore Chorale and the Fine Arts Gallery. These programs have been entertaining residents and visitors for decades, celebrating artistic experiences that encompass theatre, music and art.

Bayshore Arts Center will return to the stage in November with “Armistice,” a powerful and poignant production that honors the stories of veterans and the legacy of peace. Directed by Tony LaMalfa, the show will run Nov. 6-9; tickets are available now.
