CRYSTAL FALLS — Cheryl Marie Ponchaud, 72, of Crystal Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, at her home after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.
She was born on June 3, 1953, in Crystal Falls to the late Benjamin and Esther (Benton) Cheney.
She was married to Volney “Ponch” Ponchaud on Nov. 8, 1969, at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Falls.
She worked for 28 years at Fob’s Restaurant. She enjoyed camping, riding Harleys with her husband, her dog, Izzy, and loved getting lost in a good book.
She is survived by her sons, Aaron (Marnie Gilligan) Ponchaud of Crystal Falls and Brad Ponchaud of Lomira, Wis.; daughter Laurie Hernandez of Crystal Falls; three grandchildren, Cody (Meegan), Chase (Angela) and Casey; sister Susan (Gene) Francisco; sister-in-law Glenrose Fatturi; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Volney “Ponch” Ponchaud in June of 2024; her grandson, Anthony Hernandez; and brother-in-law Jerry Fatturi.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home in Crystal Falls.
A Celebration of Cheryl’s Life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Vicky Prewitt officiating.
