HERMANSVILLE — Helen M. Savord, 91, of Hermansville, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, at Evergreen Meadows Assisted Living in Norway.
She was born on April 27, 1934, in Michigan City, Ind., daughter to Joseph A. and Margaret C. (Nazy) McCoy. Helen graduated high school in Crown Point, Ind., in 1952.
On May 28, 1966, the former Helen McCoy married Wilfred J. Savord in Crown Point.
Helen was employed with Northern Indiana Public Service Company for 37 years.
Following retirement, Helen and her husband, Wilfred, moved to Hermansville in 1989. They were faithful parishioners of St. John Neumann Church and she was the president of the St. Anne’s Society and Corporals, she taught CCD, and was a lector. Attending Mass was incredibly important to her.
Among her survivors include her stepchildren, Karen Miller of Hermansville, Victoria Berner of Wonder Lake, Ill., Sue Zini of Hermansville, Deborah Crummie of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Mary Lou (Milton) Hudson of Vulcan; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces, nephews.
Along with her parents, Margaret “Bessie” and Joseph McCoy, Helen is preceded in death by husband, Wilfred; siblings Catherine Vincent, Carol Matovina, Margie Sailors, Janie Kwinski, John McCoy; her stepchildren, Blanche Egan and Wilfred “Butch” L. Savord; and sons in-law, Kenneth Berner and Darnell Crummie.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m. to noon at St. John Neumann Church, 100 Loretto Heights, Hermansville, MI 49847. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon with the Rev. Benny Mathew officiating. A luncheon will take place after the mass in the church hall.
