Pauline Sarder

IRON MOUNTAIN — Pauline (Wilgreen) Sarder, born July 29, 1939, and raised in Iron River, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025.

In 1960, she married Edward Sarder, also of Iron River.

They raised four children in the Iron Mountain area, first living in the Breitung neighborhood of Kingsford, before relocating to their home on Highway M-95 in 1973.

Pauline loved flower gardening and belonged to The Gardening Angels group for many years. They went on many wonderful bus trips together. In August of 2006 their flower and vegetable gardens were chosen by the Zonta International Tour of Homes and Gardens.

For many years Ed and Pauline owned a backyard pool where most of her grandchildren learned to swim. Pauline also loved the sun and spent her younger years outdoors as much as possible. She loved dogs and raised many different breeds over the years.

She cherished her grandchildren and it was not unusual to walk into her kitchen and have two to six of them building with blocks and playing while she cooked supper while their parents were still at work.

She spent many years waitressing and bartending at various locations throughout the area with the majority of it being spent at The El Capitan Supper Club where she then retired from. Pauline will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

Pauline is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edward; siblings Mary Ann (Gene) Swenski of Iron Mountain, John (Bonnie) Wilgreen of Iron River, and Tom Wilgreen of Gaastra; her children, Kathy (Tony) Borkowski of Granite Bluff, David (Jennifer) Sarder of Crystal Falls, Fran Chartier of Norway and daughter-in-law, Melanie Sarder of Kingsport, Tenn.; and many grandchildren, their spouses, and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Stella Wilgreen of Iron River; and her son, Michael Sarder; as well as many in-laws in the Sarder family.

There will be a celebration of life, at a later date, for family and close friends.

Condolences to the family of Pauline (Wilgreen) Sarder can be expressed online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
