Phyllis Stanek
ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — Phyllis Rose Marie (Carlson) Stanek, 93, passed away on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at Woodland Terrace in St. Joseph, Mich.
She was born on Sept. 1, 1932, to Frank Bardoni and Hulda Carlson in Chicago. She married Robert (Bob) J. Stanek on Sept. 15, 1956, and they spent 65 happy years together until his passing in October of 2021.
Phyllis grew up in Norway, and enjoyed her days in the U.P. After she married her husband, Bob, they eventually settled in Saginaw, Mich., where they spent the next 60 years. She was a homemaker while her children grew up but eventually went on to work for Meijer for many years before she retired.
Phyllis loved to bowl and play golf well into her 80s. One of her greatest passions was traveling, especially bus trips with Bob and regular visits to see family and friends in the Norway area.
Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Karen (Jeff) Ziebart, Christy (Manny) Barriger; grandchildren Rebecca (Ben) Hanson, Michelle (Gabe) Gembala, Madison Barriger; great-grandchildren Max Hanson, Mackenzie Hanson, and Scarlett Gembala.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Stanek; and beloved son, Brian Stanek.
A private family burial for Phyllis will take place in her hometown of Norway, in her beloved Upper Peninsula.
