IRON MOUNTAIN — Dorothy E. Hendrickson, 96, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025.

Dorothy was born on July 21, 1929, to August and Esther Carlson of Kingsford.

She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1948. Dorothy attended Augustana Nursing School in Chicago and then worked at Dickinson Memorial Hospital as a pediatric nurse for several years. She married Milton Hendrickson in 1953 and went on to raise a family of five children.

In her early years, Dorothy enjoyed ice skating, dancing, swimming, being a member of the Job’s Daughters, and serving as a youth leader in the Luther League. As she got older, she was active in her church, a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and a member of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of the PTA and helped at sports events. She was also an avid reader.

Some of the highlights of Dorothy’s life were being a part of the Lutheran Ladies Luncheons and Bible Studies. She loved traveling to Sweden and Finland to meet her husband’s relatives and visiting her family for holidays.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Elaine (James) Johnson, David Hendrickson, James (Jennifer) Hendrickson, Sharon Schaut; and grandchildren, Amanda (Peter) Gaspar, Andrew Johnson, Alex (James) Sweetman, Sara (Jon) Horsley; and six great-grandchildren, Seren, Tavin, Zoey, James, Felix, and Erin. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, August and Esther Carlson; a brother and sister-in-law, Irving and Margaret Carlson; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Arthur Johnson; her son, Robert Hendrickson; and her son-in-law, Daniel Schaut.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 10:30 a.m. until noon at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A prayer service will take place at noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held in the coming spring or summer.
