Elizabeth “Betty” Simon

IRON MOUNTAIN — Elizabeth “Betty” Anne Simon, 101, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain.

She was born on Sept. 24, 1924, in Iron Mountain, to the late Angelo P. and Annie T. (Formenti) Wentarmini.

She was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on the north side. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1942. She married Eugene “Gene” A. Simon of Norway, who was a fighter pilot in World War II.

Betty moved with Gene during the war from the East coast to Florida, while he fought in the Atlantic Theatre from an aircraft carrier. After the war, Betty and Gene returned to Iron Mountain, where Betty began working at W B Thompson Co., and worked as an accountant with them for 52 years before retiring in 1999 at the age of 75.

She enjoyed traveling, visiting many countries over the years, and went on several cruises. In 1970, she learned to play the organ and enjoyed playing it.

She was involved in several clubs such as the Ladies Guild at Immaculate Conception Church; Daughters of Isabella, where she was the financial secretary; and GFWC of Iron Mountain and Kingsford. She was a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul and the gift shop at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson Hospital, and an adorer at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel.

Being an avid card player, she was a member of a bridge club and a 500 club for a number of years. She was very generous to everyone, a great cook and baker, and a devoted Catholic. She will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her sister, Darlene Willman of Traverse City, Mich.; nieces Diane (Pam Lavender) Willman of Bath, Mich., and Ann Louise (Greg) Berry of Novi, Mich.; nephews David Willman of Traverse City, Steven (Judy) Wentarmini of Iron Mountain, and Richard (Donna) Wentarmini of Lisbon, Wis.; great-nieces and nephews Karessa Willman, Daniel (Melissa) Wentarmini, Karen (Eric) Hackstock, Laura (Justin) Murawski, Dr. Jonathan Berry, Heidi Wentarmini, Erica Wentarmini, Adam (Rachel) Wentarmini, Daniel (Jeri) Obremski, Debra Baumgartner, and Caryn Hatfield; and many great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Gene” Simon; brothers and sisters-in-law Louis (Dorothy) Wentarmini of Milwaukee, and George (Irma) Wentarmini of Iron Mountain; and niece Carol (nee Wentarmini) Obremski-DeStefanis of Huburtis, Wis.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain, with the Rev. Father Michael Chenier officiating. Burial will be at Cemetery Park.
