QUINNESEC — Janis Jean Akers, 70, of Quinnesec, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, at the Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain.
Janis was born Aug. 25, 1955, in Marquette, daughter of Marvin and Barbara Jean Williamson. A 1973 Negaunee High School graduate, Janis completed her LPN program at Northern Michigan University in 1977, and on Oct. 28, 1978, she married Jerry Akers at the United Methodist Church in Negaunee.
A sweet and friendly but shy woman, Janis was always positive. She was a kind and caring nurse at Bell Memorial Hospital, and in her later years enjoyed working at Walmart, particularly in the fabric department. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and taking care of children. A member of Maranatha Assembly of God, Janis was a leader for STARS and AWANA.
Janis is survived by her husband, Jerry; her three children, Sarah (Terry) Fox, Rebecca Akers, and Chris Akers; a brother, Tom Williamson; and her beloved dog, Chloe.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Maranatha Assembly of God, with Pastor Dave Wilton officiating the memorial service at 11 a.m. A small luncheon will be provided at the church following the service.
