KINGSFORD — John Henry Aune, 91, of Kingsford, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, at the Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain.
John was born June 4, 1934, in Marinette, Wis., son of the late Henry and Georgina (Rian) Aune. A 1952 Norway High School graduate, John obtained his B.S. degree in pharmacy from Ferris State University in 1956 before serving six years in the United States Army, some of which were spent at the Pentagon, and the U. S. Army Reserves.
After taking over for his father, John owned and operated the Aune Drug Store in Norway for many years before retiring in 2000. He married Diane Newingham on Aug. 17, 1986, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Norway, and they shared 39 wonderful years together.
John was a kind and gentle man who made friends wherever he went. A member of the Golden K, Pine Grove Country Club, Kiwanis and Bethany Lutheran Church, John enjoyed fishing and water skiing (in his younger years), bowling, golfing, and eating (especially his desserts). Most of all, he enjoyed traveling with Diane and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his children, Ramon (Leslie) Aune, Jean (Jim) Rickner, David (Susan) Aune, Rebecca (Mark) Trulock and Mark Monosso; nine grandchildren, Marquee (Jim) Wahoviak, Jacob (Lexi) Trulock, Jacob (Brittany) Rickner, Jenna Rickner, Hannah Aune, Travis (Corrie) Aune, Allison (Michael) Gray, Mariah (Roger) Reiten and Jordan Monosso; his great-grandchildren, Macy, Jack, Everett, Jace, Stella, Mary and Rosalie; a sister, Ann Marie (Jim) MacBride; a brother, George (Shirley) Aune; two sisters-in-law, Dawn Wahlstrom and Susie Newingham; a brother-in-law, Dennis Newingham; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, John is preceded in death by his first wife, Janette Aune; and her parents, Saimi and Charles Maki; his mother and father-in-law, Corlinda and Virgil Newingham; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Wahlstrom.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain, with a service to follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Lori Liverance will officiate, and burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to Special Olympics or Kiwanis.
