Dorothy (Hansen) Edlund

KINGSFORD — Dorothy Mae Edlund, 91, of Kingsford, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, at Evergreen Meadows in Norway, surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born on May 15, 1934, in Iron Mountain to the late Julius and Signe (Johnson) Hansen.

After graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1952, she was a secretary for the Wisconsin Electric Power Company for 10 years. In later years she worked for New York Life Insurance, Detroit & Northern Bank, Champion International and The Swedish Passport.

Dorothy fell in love with Bud Edlund at the east side ice rink. They were married on Dec. 31, 1961, and raised their family in Kingsford.

Dorothy was a loving, caring and hardworking wife and mother.

She was adventurous, enjoying swimming, ice skating and anything Bud was doing. She loved baking delicious pies, cakes and cookies. She and Bud were a team canning and freezing the produce he grew in his garden. They were also a team picking berries and apples and making fruit pies.

She often hosted family for special holiday gatherings. She liked knitting mittens, hats and sweaters, and sewed many dresses and skating costumes.

She was very involved at the First Covenant Church and taught Sunday School and Children’s church. She organized rides for children from Merriman to come to Sunday School. She had a passion for encouraging young mothers through Cradle Roll and Mother’s Class. She sang alto in the church choir for 65 years.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Lynn (Kirk) Seaman of Gladstone and Jon (Sonya) Edlund of Norway; grandchildren Annika (Ryan) Matthias, Timothy (Samantha) Seaman, Levi Seaman, Jonathan (Lauren) Edlund, Andrew (Ibiye) Edlund and Zachary (Lisa) Edlund; great-grandchildren Ezra, Phin and Addie Matthias, Everett and William Seaman, Harmony and Angel Sanchez, Ryder Edlund, Eliana and Enzo Edlund and Henry Edlund, with one more on the way; sister Carolyn (Elwood) Anderson and brother-in-law, Glenn (Shirley) Edlund; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond “Bud”; her sister, June (Bob) Larson; brother Raymond (Addie) Hansen; brother-in-law Gerald (Gloria) Edlund; sister-in-law Phyllis (Alan) Galeazzi; and granddaughter Bethany Edlund.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Chad Harrison officiating.

A luncheon will follow and burial will be in the Iron Mountain Cemetery.
