Cory Groeneveld

QUINNESEC — Cory John Groeneveld, 37, of Quinnesec, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, surrounded by his family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on Dec. 20, 1988 in Norway, the son of David Groeneveld and Lenore (Krause) Peterson.

Cory graduated from Norway High School in 2007; he attended Northern Michigan University, which lead to working as a lab tech at Aspirus in Iron River for over 10 years.

Because of the care he received all of his life from the medical field, he felt inspired to return to school for nursing to be able to “give back.” He graduated from the nursing program at Bay College in 2022 and in 2023 started working at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center caring for veterans. But Cory always said his favorite job he ever had was being a blackjack dealer at the Island Resort and Casino.

He married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Hannah Voss, on July 7, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway. It was Cory’s sense of humor, gentle heart, belief in God and solid morals that Hannah fell in love with.

Together with their five children, they loved camping, trips out west, spontaneous road trips and adventures, building Legos, collecting Pokémon cards, playing boardgames, watching movies and having intense Mario Kart racing nights with his kids. His Catholic Faith and family were woven together in his life, forming the foundation of his character and legacy he leaves behind.

Cory is survived by his wife, Hannah; sons Ethan, Jordy and Theo; daughters Ava and Moriah; father, David (Kathy) Groeneveld; mother Lenore (Brian) Peterson; brother Mike (Susan) Groeneveld; sisters Karie (Paul) Taff and Anna Peterson; stepsiblings Andrea (Nick) Martin, Heidi (Kevin) DeMaster and Lee (Shawna) Erickson; father and mother-in-law, Barry and Yvonne Voss; brothers-in-law Samuel (Avery) Voss, Noah (Ali) Voss and Caleb (Courtney) Voss; sisters-in-law Izetta (Trevor) Rees and Emma (Lucas) Fassbender; nieces and nephews Kelly (Edoardo) LaTorre, Kasey (Marc) Lessard, Tommy (Alyssa) Taff, Travis Taff, Michael (Grace) Groeneveld Jr., Alyssa Groeneveld, Bryce Groeneveld, Raph, Joachim, Zuzu and Ophelia Fassbender, Scarlett and Cameron Rees, Heidi, Paxton and Ruano Voss; and countless extended family and friends, especially his cousin, David Alexa, who he considered his brother.

He was preceded in death by two miscarried babies, Ruthie and Gabriel; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Cory’s loved ones would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to all of his doctors and nurses over the years at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson and Froedtert Hospital, as well as the cancer center. But most especially for the compassionate care, brotherhood and love that Cory received by our angel, Jimmy Campbell.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church Church, with Father Marty Flynn officiating, with Father Abraham Mupparathara and Father Mark McQuesten concelebrating.

Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Cory’s wish would be for you to go to confession and get back to church.

Condolences to the family of Cory may be expressed online at www.ortmanfuneralhome.com.
