David Wencl

POWERS — David Wencl, 38, of Powers, born Nov. 1, 1987, was called home to Jesus on Dec. 25, 2025.

The world lost a kind, gentle and loving person who will be greatly missed. From a very young age David volunteered for years at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, helping bring joy and comfort to the elderly on a daily basis.

David went on to graduate from North Central Area High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Northern Michigan University. He worked in various management roles at the Four Seasons Resort in Pembine, Wis., and The Waters in Minocqua, Wis. He also spent time working as a corrections officer for youth.

David’s passions and joys in life were his family and friends and helping the wayward souls he met along the way to feel loved and accepted. He never brought judgement to anyone that entered his life, only understanding and compassion. His incredibly large heart didn’t just extend to family and friends, but to anyone in need of that helping hand, that kind word, or that simple gesture. It is his gentleness and caring that will be greatly missed.

David is survived by his mother, Kim Spawn; grandmother (second mom), Marilyn Wencl; sister Rebecca DuPont, brother Nick DuPont; sister-in-law Tahlia DuPont; niece and nephew Nadine and Nohlan, who brought him so much love and joy on a daily basis; his special dog and companion, Goose; uncles Rudy Wencl and Bob Wencl; aunt Christina Kwarciany; various cousins; and many special friends and family.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 10 to 11 a.m. Central time at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Benny Mathew officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
