Ellamae “Sis” Herman
FLORENCE, Wis. — Ellamae “Sis” Herman, 93, of Florence, Wis., passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain.
She was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Iron River, daughter of the late Charles and Ella (Bomaster) Greig. Sis grew up in Iron River and graduated from Iron River High School in 1950. After graduation, she moved to Waukegan, Ill., and worked at Abbott Laboratories.
While there, Sis met her husband, Leo. They were married on Aug. 8, 1953, and moved to their dairy farm in Medford, Wis. In 1969, they moved to Kingsford, where Leo became a truck driver for Grede Foundry. In 1972, Sis and Leo made their home in Florence. Leo preceded her in death in 1997.
Sis worked as a custodian at Florence High School from 1982 until 1992, when she retired. She was very active with the Florence County Fair and established the Annual Smear Tournament held each year in Florence, which proceeds from the event went to the fair. She served on St. Mary’s altar society for many years. Sis volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul even into her 90s. She loved to play cards, Sudoku, word search, crosswords, and jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially Green Bay Packers football games. Sis was also an avid Florence Bobcats supporter and went to most games with her good friends.
She is survived by her sons, Andrew (Frances) Herman, Steve Herman, and Stan Herman; daughters Debra Quick, Peggy Weber, Beverly (Rod) Cousineau, and Amy Herman; a sister, Kathy Kangas; a sister-in-law, Harriet Treder; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Leo, Sis was preceded in death by a son, Brock Herman; a sister, Jane; and by brothers, Jim, Tom, Dick, and Donald Greig.
No funeral services will be held. A gathering of remembrance for family and friends will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Florence.
