FLORENCE, Wis. — Eugene “Gene” H. Vanden Heuvel, 90, of Florence, passed away at his home on Monday, Dec. 29, 2025.

He was born on Aug. 17, 1935, in Oneida, Wis., to the late Edward and Mary (Vanden Broek) Vanden Heuvel.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1957. He married Sally Bougie on Sept. 12, 1959, in West De Pere, Wis., at St. Boniface Catholic Church.

He worked for 36 years at Fort Howard and held many positions, retiring as a welder in 1993. He was very proud to be a Hunter Safety instructor for 40 years, and a mentor for KAMO (Kids and Mentors Outdoors). After retirement, he and Sally moved to Florence.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sally; sons Todd (Pam Eliason) and Scott (Tammy Anderson); daughters Kim (John) Parsons, and Kaye (Scott) Reid; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Sonny, Carl and Lyle; and sisters Florence Ness, and Maggie Morrow.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Florence. Military honors will be awarded at 10:45 a.m. at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. at the church, with Father Joseph Soja officiating.
