Martha Smukowski

IRON MOUNTAIN — Martha (Raiche) Smukowski, 86, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully and entered into the presence of our Lord on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on Feb. 20, 1939, daughter of the late Edward and Elda (Orr) Guth in Petersburg, Ind.

She graduated in 1956 from Kingsford High School. She married Ray Raiche on June 16, 1956. He preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 2013.

Martha was very artistic, enjoying sewing, quilting, crafting and tending to her beautiful flowers. She especially enjoyed bird watching from her kitchen window. She was a great cook and baker, and never turned down a spirited game of cards with friends and family. She loved her family above all else.

Surviving Martha was her husband, Thomas Smukowski, whom she married in November of 2017; her children: a son, Terry (Nancy) Raiche of Iron Mountain and a daughter, Patti (Mark) Bellmore of Quinnesec. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jason (Bridget) Raiche of Iron Mountain, Brianne Bellmore of Kingsford, Brandon (Meagan) Bellmore of Kingsford, Joel (Patrece) Cotton of Iron Mountain, Melissa (Albert) Monhead of Kingsford, and Samantha (Tony) Micheau of Kingsford. Eleven great-grandchildren survive Martha, along with numerous great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Other survivors are two brothers, Paul (Susan) Guth of Kingsford and Richard (Judy) Larson of Iron Mountain, and two dear sisters-in-laws, Sue Raiche of Vulcan and Linda Guth of Kingsford.

Martha was preceded in death by brothers, Jim Guth of Sparta, Tenn., David Guth of Kingsford, and a sister, Lois Maynard of Norway.

The family would like to thank the nurses of Marshfield Clinic for their kind and loving care of Martha and also the caring staff of Dr. Morel.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Services for Martha were held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Norway. The funeral service was conducted on Jan. 14, 2026, with the Rev. Michael Langlois officiating.
