Mary Savoie

POWERS — Mary Eileen (LaChapelle) Savoie, 86, of Powers, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers with her loving family at her side.

Mary was born March 22, 1939, in Escanaba, to the late Frank and Vida (Besaw) LaChapelle. She attended St. Anne Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s School and worked at the Sherman Hotel and other Escanaba businesses after her mother passed away when Mary was only 14. She also worked in Appleton and other towns in the Fox Valley, living with her sister and brother-in-law while helping to care for her young nephew, Ricky.

Mary met her husband Floyd Savoie on a blind date at a roller rink in 1957 and after four years of courtship they were married on July 22, 1961, at St. Anne’s. They went on to celebrate 64 years together. Most of those years were spent on the Savoie family farm outside of Powers.

She was a devout Catholic who loved the rosary and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. She was a member of St. Bruno’s Parish in Nadeau, singing in the choir for many years, and along with Floyd, coordinating the monthly Eucharistic Adoration.

Mary was a devoted mother who said her biggest accomplishment and source of joy were her three children. She made special character and animal cakes for their birthdays and for a number of years was 4-H leader for a local club and the Kountry Krafters. She also provided daycare for her next-door neighbor’s children.

In addition to her love for her family and special love for her grandchildren, she loved music, reading and sang continuously throughout the day as she attended to her family and home. Mary loved sports, especially football, and could be found watching a Packers, Wolverines or Cornhuskers game on any given fall weekend. Mary had a big personality and was the life of the party!

Mary is survived and will be deeply missed by daughters Eileen (Joseph) Sparpana and Renee (James) Vandermissen; son Jesse (Laura) Savoie; and leaves six grandchildren, Noah, Isaiah and Vivian Savoie and Allison, Taylor and Carly (Nick) Sparpana Ellering. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Richard Wagner; seven godchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, along with a very special great niece, Christy Servant.

In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother Agnes; three brothers, Raymond, Ronald (Lois) and Francis (Janet, Francie); and a sister, Patricia (Dwight) Lee; sister and brothers-in-law, Audrey and Russell Wright, Ray Cadeau, Harriet Wagner, Beverly and Herb Seefeldt, John Kadow, Vernon and Lillian Savoie, Melvin Savoie, Marian and Walter Samodral and Dick Morran. She was also preceded in death by a very special niece, Jean (Lee) Avila.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pinecrest and UP Health System Home Care & Hospice for the compassionate and loving care they provided Mary in these last months, weeks and days as she transitioned to her forever home with Jesus.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central time at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Spalding, with recitation of the rosary to begin at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Nadeau with Father Benny officiating.
