Robert Peterson

HELENA, Mont. — Robert “Bob” Peterson, 79, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Jan. 9, 2026 in Helena, Mont.

He was born Dec. 5, 1946, in Stambaugh, a son of the late Edwin and Christine Peterson.

Packers Nation lost a great fan. Bob loved watching the Packers take down the Bears. He was a Die Hard Packers fan for nearly 80 years. An avid hunter and fisherman, his greatest times were spent fishing with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to the Polka Show every Saturday morning on WXPR. His favorite song was “Life in the Finnish Woods” by Erwin Suess.

Bob worked for The Daily News delivering papers for over 20 years without missing a day. Once featured in the paper for hitting the most deer in Iron County, it never stopped him from doing the job he loved.

He is survived by six children, Marrilee West of Helena, Montana, Cynthia Patnoude of Marysville, Wash., Stephanie (Jeff) Hackman of Helena, John (Amanda) Peterson of East Helena, Mont., Melanie (Brandon) McLeod of Helena, Kevin (Jessica) Peterson of East Helena; 15 grandchildren, Karl Patnoude, Jake Patnoude, Rose Patnoude, Emily Patnoude, Benjamin Nelson, Elijah Nelson, Aimee Peterson, Kayleigh Peterson, Brieonna Peterson, Luke Peterson, Bruce Peterson, Jayde Elwess, Rylie Elwess, Kai Peterson, and Evie Peterson; along with his lifelong partner and friend, Barbara West; and many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.

At the family’s request there will be no service at this time. Big Sky Funeral Home in East Helena is honored to serve the family of Robert “Bob” Peterson.

Let’s give Bob a big Go Pack Go as he’ll now be watching the game from the best seat in the house.
