Sally Fortier

IRON MOUNTAIN — Sally Ann Fortier (née Frickleton) passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan.18, 2026, at the age of 91 in Holland, Mich.

Born on March 6, 1934, in Iron Mountain, to Ray and Mildred Frickleton, Sally lived a life full of love, grace, and quiet strength.

She married her beloved husband, John “Jack” Andrew Fortier, on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1953, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain. Together they shared 70 years of marriage and countless adventures, building a beautiful family and finding joy in every moment. Jack preceded her in death on May 28, 2024.

Following his passing, Sally moved to the memory care unit at Quincy Senior Living in Holland, near her daughter Jill. Sally and Jack are now happily reunited in heaven.

Sally was the devoted mother of three children: Darcy Kassin (Rich Sorenson) and John Fortier (Teresa), both of Iron Mountain, and Jill Sesselmann (Eric) of Muskegon, Mich. She was a cherished grandmother to 10 grandchildren and a doting great-grandmother to 25 great-grandchildren, with a 26th on the way — whom she was the first to be told about.

Known for her class, kindness, and a secretly sassy spirit, Sally was the ultimate caregiver. She wouldn’t rest until she was certain that everyone she loved was well-fed, warm, and cared for. Deeply loved by all who knew her, Sally’s warmth and generosity will be forever remembered.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Mildred Frickleton; her husband, Jack; her sister, Joanne; and her brother-in-law, Art.

In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she is survived by her sisters-in-law, Marylee Oatley (Frank) of Marquette, and Bonnie Fortier of Iron Mountain.

Among the family’s favorite memories are joyful Fourth of July celebrations in Spread Eagle, Wis., breathtaking sunsets in Barefoot Beach, and happy hours enjoyed anywhere with loved ones.

The family extends special thanks to the memory care staff at Quincy Senior Living and Emmanuel Hospice of Holland for their compassionate care, as well as Colleen, Heather and Carol, who were such an important part of Sally and Jack’s care and daily lives prior to her move to Holland.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Hospice of Holland or St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Sally’s memory.

Sally has been entrusted to the care of Systema Funeral Home of Muskegon and Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
