Gary Edlund

IRON MOUNTAIN — Gary Edlund, 81, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully at Iron County Medical Care Facility on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026.

Born on Oct. 24, 1944, to Alvin and Edna Edlund, Gary was raised in Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronald Edlund of Waukesha, Wis.; his former wife, Jill (Hinkley) Edlund; and his great-grandson, Arthur Pivoris.

Gary was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family. Over the years, he worked as a milkman for Walstrom’s Dairy, at W.B. Thompson, at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kingsford, for Wisconsin Electric, and as a projectionist at the Braumart Movie Theater. He later became the longtime owner of U.P. Pet Center in Iron Mountain, where he built lasting friendships within the community. Gary delivered papers for the Daily News for many years.

A lifelong racing enthusiast, Gary loved NASCAR, but his greatest racing memories came from competing at Norway Speedway during the 1960s and 1970s. Friday nights at the track were some of his proudest moments. He also enjoyed customizing vehicles and was known around town for driving what was likely the only Dodge Caravan with flames and a rear spoiler.

Gary also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time with his cat, Luna, and could often be found hanging out at Bimbo’s, enjoying pizza and good company.

Gary is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Christy (Jody) of Iron Mountain and Jaime Hiatt (Brent) of Kingsford; grandchildren Michael Christy (Stephanie), Nicole Hartwig (Luke), Rebecca Pivoris (Eric), and Colten Hiatt; and great-grandchildren Luna Christy, Maverick Christy, Ezekiel Hess, Reid Hartwig, Brooks Hartwig, Beaux Hartwig, and Theodore Pivoris. He is also survived by his nephew, Scott Edlund of Iron Mountain; nephew Steve Edlund; and niece Molly Fischer (Dale), both of Waukesha, Wis.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at DICSA and to the staff at Iron County Medical Care Facility for their compassion and care.

A private graveside burial will be held. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you hug one of your loved ones in Gary’s memory.
