NORWAY — Peter Jacob William Kivisaari, 79, of Norway, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, after a decade-long journey through an ultimately devastating bone marrow cancer (myelofibrosis) at Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson in Iron Mountain.
Peter was born on April 18, 1946, in Marquette, the son of the late William and Lempi (Maki) Kivisaari, and moved to Norway at age 5.

He was then drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. Following his tour, he returned to marry Cheryl on July 3, 1971, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Norway.
That fall, the young couple relocated to Minneapolis, where Peter attended University of Minnesota Law School, graduating in 1974. He practiced law in Norway for nearly 40 years. In retirement he enjoyed coffee with friends, Bible study, and cutting wood with his chainsaw.

Peter was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for much of his life, and his faith in God provided a strong foundation and a guiding force to his family, by whom he was beloved.
Peter is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cheryl; and his sons, Adam, David, and Mark (Sun Lee).
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Lempi Kivisaari; and his brother, John.
