Iner Peterson

NORTHBROOK, Ill. — Iner Albe Peterson, 95, of Northbrook, Ill., died Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at his home in Northbrook.

He was born on Nov. 27, 1930, in Detroit, the son of the late John and Olga (Swanson) Peterson, who met in Norway.

Iner married Beverly Peterson in January 1953. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2025.

He was the first in his family to graduate from university, at Wayne State University in Detroit, and he achieved degrees not only in civil engineering but also in architecture. Iner managed large construction projects in the United States and internationally.

He was able to enjoy a retirement spent with friends from his Unitarian Church group, including his close friend, Meredith Morris.

Iner was a lifelong learner who enjoyed his Great Books club, bridge club, film club, and investment club. A long time DIY-er when it came to house and car maintenance, he often said: “if you want a job done right, it’s best to do it yourself!” His “can do” attitude helped him live a long and productive life filled with loving family and friends. He will be missed.

Iner is survived by three daughters, Penny (Marc Noailles) Peterson, Lois Peterson, and Ingrid (Rob) Macy; grandson Brennan Noailles; and special friend, Meredith Morris.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, from 9:15 to 11 a.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Iner’s memory to The Nature Conservancy or UNICEF.
