Susanne Gedvick

NORWAY — Susanne Veronica Gedvick, lovingly known to many as “Grandma Susie,” 79, of Norway, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, to whom the family cannot thank enough for their loving and devoted care.

Born in Alabama, Susie was the second of nine children of the late Charles and Maria Day.

She married Jerry Gedvick in 1975 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway.

Susie proudly served her country with honor in both the United States Air Force and the National Guard and became a member of the Hall-Dewinter Post 145 American Legion.

She spent most of her childhood in upstate New York alongside her eight siblings. In high school, Susie earned recognition as the top majorette in the state, even leading her marching band in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

During her military service, her family relocated to Hamilton Lakes. After completing her service, Susie settled in Norway, where she built her life, raised her two children — Christie and Kevin — and shared many wonderful years with Jerry.

At the center of Susie’s life was her deep and unwavering faith which was on display in how she lived each and every day. She had a special gift for cake decorating and joyfully shared that talent by creating countless birthday, holiday, and wedding cakes for family and friends. Susie was both a literal and figurative light to those around her, with a fondness for anything that sparkled. She was often heard saying, “Some are good … but more are better, because you can never have too many sparkles.”

Susie will always be remembered for her unwavering kindness, generosity, and openhearted nature. She had a remarkable gift for turning strangers into friends and friends into family. Her children often joked that they never knew who might be joining them for holidays or dinner, as Susie welcomed everyone with love and without hesitation.

Susie is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Jerry; her children, Christie (Todd) Trinoskey and Kevin (Dawn) Mitchell; her siblings, Cecile “Sissy” Betancourt, Michael Day, Steven Day, Victoria “Vicki” Tomasoski, Charles “Chuck” Day, Marisa “Meeka” Day, and Georganne “Cumber” Ehlert; her honorary son, Brandon Smeester; and her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mitchell, Onika Smeester, Rhylee Trinoskey, Levi Trinoskey, and Oaklynn Trinoskey. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and countless others whom she lovingly embraced as family.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Charles and Maria Day, as well as her beloved brother, James “Jimmy” Day.

A memorial service will be held and announced later this summer.

Interment will take place at the Norway Township Cemetery.
