Dennis Vassar

He was born in Iron Mountain on Christmas Day 1941, the oldest son of the late Arlington and Dorothy Miller Vassar.

He attended Florence schools and served in the United States Coast Guard for five years. He was stationed on the USCG Icebreaker Mackinaw and on the New England Coast. After serving in the Coast Guard, Dennis had many jobs over his lifetime.

His favorite job was to work in the woods alongside his dad and his brother, Bill. Dennis loved working on anything mechanical and put great value in a hard day’s work. He was happiest when he was in his garage or chopping and stacking firewood.

On July 7, 1998, he married Kimberly Johnson in Florence. Together they have one son, Dennis (Julia) Vassar; two grandsons, Liam and Rowan Vassar.

In addition to his wife, son and grandchildren, Dennis is also survived by brothers Bill (Marilyn) Vassar, Bob (Nancy) Vassar and Pat Vassar; sister Faye Vassar; and sister-in-law Evelyn Vassar. He is further survived by a large extended family.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Lindley and Mary Johnson; and his brothers, Terry, Ken and James Vassar.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
