IRON MOUNTAIN — Anna Domenica Cory, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 18, 1937, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Romualdo “Bob” and Laura (Nardecchia) Fontecchio. She chose her birthday to be reunited with her parents; Glenn, her husband of 59 years; and siblings Robert Fontecchio and RoseMarie Taff. What a great celebration for all of them!
Anna was a devout Catholic. She rarely missed church and had a strong faith in her God. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1955, and after graduation she worked for many years as a switchboard operator for the local telephone company. She married Glenn Cory at the Immaculate Conception Church in 1956. Working in the family business, the El Capitan Supper Club, was often her second job. She loved making pasta, baking Italian desserts, and visiting with the customers.
Her love of people and taking care of others served her well. In 1972, she earned her practical nursing degree from Bay de Noc Community College. She started that career at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain. She also worked at the Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain and the nursing home in Florence, Wis. After retirement, Anna continued to work at the El Cap, doing whatever needed to be done. She was tireless, energetic, and always eager to lend a helping hand.
Anna’s true love was her family. She was always the catalyst for family gatherings. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she would prepare countless dishes for all to enjoy — ravioli, gnocchi, linguine, lasagna, fresh bread, pizzelle, biscotti, and ciambellone, to name just a few of her favorites. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her whole life. She was happiest when she could laugh with them and play with the little ones. Anna took care of everyone whether they wanted to be taken care of or not! She touched the lives of everyone she met and will be dearly missed by so many.

Anna is survived by her sons, Steve (Julie) Cory of Spread Eagle, Wis., Kevin (Dawn) Cory of Lake Elwood, Wis., and Kent (Queena) Cory of Greendale, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Janet Terwilliger of Iron Mountain; her daughter-in-law, Linda Cory of Greendale; grandchildren Andrea (Stephen) Herbst, Josh (Maria) Cory, Brooke (Jake) Allen, Camille (Jake) Buthman, and Domenico Cory; great-grandchildren, Roman Herbst, Gianna Herbst, Estelle Herbst, Indie Allen, Kelsey Allen, Vaya Kell, Nico Cory, Elliana Cory, and Luca Cory; her special friend, David DeMuri; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Michael Chenier will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
