Elizabeth ‘Jean’ McInerney
CRYSTAL FALLS — Elizabeth “Jean” McInerney, 88, of Crystal Falls, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
Jean was born Aug. 11, 1937, in Stambaugh, daughter of the late William and Lillian (Moore) Thorpe. She graduated from Alpha High School in 1955 and went on to attend college at St. Leo College, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Jean was a U.S. Army veteran, Airman 2nd Class, and was honorably discharged in 1958.
Jean married Russell “Mac” McInerney on April 19, 1958, on the Air Force base in Louisiana, and they were married for 58 years; Mac preceded her in death in 2016.
Jean worked for the United States government for many years as an accountant, retiring in 1993. Jean was a faithful member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, snowmobiling and golfing, especially at George Young Golf Course.
Jean is survived by three sisters, Vivian (John) Rossetti, Carol Fruik and Candice Manley; a brother, William (Donna) Thorpe; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was also preceded in death by her son, Lt. James McInerney, USN, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a Navy pilot.
Private family graveside services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
