AURORA, Wis. — Richard Allen Haferkorn, 86, of Aurora, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Florence Health Services.
He was born in Norway on March 5, 1940, to the late Wallace and Sally (Van Wiele) Haferkorn. Richard was a graduate of Florence High School’s Class of 1958.
After graduation, Richard moved to Chicago for a few years to work for A. C. Nelson Co. Printing. He enlisted with the Army in August of 1962, serving three years of active duty service, half of which he served in Turkey.
On Nov. 5, 1966, he was married to his lifelong love, Bette (Hartman) Haferkorn, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Florence. Richard loved spending time with his family. Some of his favorite times included camping, vacationing in Florida, fishing, hunting, and refurbishing John Deere tractors with the Northern Tractor Club.
Richard will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 60 years, Bette Haferkorn; two children, Rodney Haferkorn and Heidi (Brad) Biller; three grandchildren, Jacob, Olivia, and Hannah Biller; 1 great-grandchild, Emmy Biller; sister Carol Sjoquist; and many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, David (Karen) Haferkorn.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home, 901 Carpenter Ave., with full military honors at 10:50 a.m. and Father Joseph Dorner officiating the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
