Vivian D. Melin

AURORA, Wis. — Vivian D. Melin, 97, loving mother and life-long resident of Aurora, Wis., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at Optalis Health in Kingsford.

Vivian was born Sept. 19, 1928, daughter of the late Richard and Freda (Pearson) Anderson. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1946. Vivian married her husband of 63 years, Dean Melin, on Aug. 19, 1950, in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2013. Vivian was an excellent cook and baker. Her caramel cinnamon rolls were epic. She enjoyed tending her beautiful flowers, country music, sewing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and long walks on the Aurora property. She enjoyed observing the countless wild birds, deer, and overweight squirrels that she fed throughout the years.

A loving and devoted wife and mother, she created a welcoming home that friends and family loved to return to year after year. How lucky we are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

Vivian is survived by two sons, Rodger (Marcia) Melin and David (Else) Melin; one daughter, Debbie (Mark) Albright; four grandchildren, Collette (Richard) Bassi, Caleb (Bobbie) Melin, Stacy (Bryan) Mielke, and Lindsay Albright; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Vernice Olson; and very special friend and caregiver Catheleen Byrd, whose frequent visits and assistance during Vivian’s residence in long term care, provided comfort and companionship.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Hartley, Benjamen, and Raymond Anderson; and her granddaughter, Erin Melin.

In accordance with Vivian’s wishes, a Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 23 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1210 S. Stephenson Ave., Iron Mountain. A celebration of life will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Vivian’s name to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iron Mountain.
