Edward J. Piatti

KINGSFORD — Edward J. Piatti, 99, of Kingsford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

Ed was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Joseph and Erminia (Romagnoli) Piatti. A 1944 Iron Mountain High School graduate, Ed served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Margaret Draxler on Sept. 2, 1950, at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain; she preceded him in death in 2021.

Ed spent more than 30 years working as a pipefitter, both at the Niagara paper mill and the Mead paper mill in Escanaba. He was a dedicated volunteer at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain for over 20 years and a longtime member of American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. Ed had a great sense of humor and enjoyed gardening, traveling, hunting and fishing. Ed was a family man through and through, treasuring the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Sharon Piatti of Kingsford, Pamela (Joseph) Patrick of Wells, Edward (Lu) Piatti of Florence, Ariz., and Richard (Sheryl) Piatti of De Pere, Wis.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Matthew) Tappy, Anthony (April) Sparpana, Kelly (Adam) Flagstadt, Brent (Jessica) Piatti and Katherine Piatti; a brother, Terry (Dee) Piatti; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ed was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Patrick; three brothers, Gerald, Raymond and Rudy Piatti; and a sister, Lorraine Zaidel.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Father Greg Heikkala and Msgr. Joseph Gouin will con-celebrate. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
