Marie Bal
NORWAY — Marie Elaine Bal, 89, of Norway, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Evergreen Meadows in Norway.
She was born on Oct. 13, 1936, in Wausaukee, Wis., the daughter of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Taylor) Polomis.
Marie graduated from Norway High School in 1954.
She married Edward “Edgie” Bal on Aug. 25, 1956, in St. Rose Catholic Church in Racine, Wis. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 2016.
Marie was employed as a legal and administrative secretary, and she retired from the Quinnesec Mill after more than 15 years of service.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway and contributed to several church committees over the years. She also supported other civic organizations, such as the Women’s Club.
Marie had many hobbies, including flower gardening, cooking (especially baking), reading, traveling, shopping and she took pride in caring for her home and family, especially in doing laundry.
Marie is survived by sons, Michael (Sally) Bal of Norway, Patrick Bal of Vulcan and Thomas (Angie) Bal of De Pere, Wis.; daughters, Kathleen Fiorani of Marquette, Donna DuLong of Denver, and Suzanne Bal of Green Bay, Wis.; grandchildren, Annie (Mike) Schienke of Clinton Township. Mich., Jill (Neil) Fernandes of Chandler, Ariz., Amy Fiorani and John Fiorani, both of Marquette, Billie Bal of Green Bay, and Rachel Bal of De Pere,; great-grandchild, Henry Schienke of Clinton Township; sister, Sandy Ostwall of Surprise, Ariz.; brother-in-law, George (Betty) Bal of Norway; sisters-in-law,

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; and brothers Norman and Joseph Polomis; brothers-in-law, John Bal, Joseph Bal, Wally Bal, Robert Devine, William Zanona and Lee Meneghini; sisters-in-law, Bernice Bal, Margie Bal, Joan Bal, and Alice Polomis; and son-in-law, Donald Fiorani.
Marie’s family is grateful for the loving care and support that she received for the past two years at Evergreen Meadows in Norway.
Family will greet friends on Monday, June 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Father Abraham Mupparathara, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway, presiding.
Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at St. Mary’s Parish Hall.
