Margaret D. Johnson
SAGOLA — Margaret D. Johnson, 92, of Sagola, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
Margaret was born on Feb. 9, 1934, to Michael and Ida (Gillespie) Miller. As one of 14 children, Margaret’s childhood was shaped by extraordinary challenges, including the heartbreaking, profound loss of her mother at a young age. Growing up in such a large family during incredibly difficult times forged in Margaret a deep resilience, strength, and a fierce dedication to the family she would go on to build.
She married Robert “Bob” Johnson in 1951; they had four children and celebrated 70 years of marriage together before his passing in 2022.
Margaret cherished family traditions, most notably spending the Fourth of July at their cottage on Deer Lake in Amasa. She found joy in berry picking, trout fishing, and partridge hunting alongside her beloved husband, Bob.
Her competitive spirit shone bright at the card table, especially when playing smear where the games were known to get quite intense. Above all, she was her grandchildren’s biggest fan, never missing a chance to watch them play sports.

An exceptionally talented baker and gardener, Margaret will be remembered for her delicious homemade pies and partridge, her green thumb, which brought beautiful flowers. Margaret walked through life anchored by her love for the Lord and her trust in His grace.
She was a member of Grace Church in Sagola.
In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Johnson in 2019, and a great-grandson, Dennis Brzoznowski; brothers Fred (Alma), Tom, Jim, Mitch, Robert, Vernon, Harold (Cherie), sisters, Elizabeth (Lorence), Gladys (Burt), Inez, Blanche (Norman), Gloria (Jim), and Ann (Frank).
She is survived by her son, Michael “Red” (Anita) Johnson of Felch; her two daughters, JeanAnne (Rob) Whitney of Sagola and Judy (Patrick) Steinbrecher of Felch; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews; in laws, Arlene and Margaret, Loren and Marlene.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 7 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Grace Church in Sagola followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Chris Kuzak will officiate. Burial will be at Channing Cemetery.
The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care given by the staff of Iron County Medical Care Facility.
