IRON MOUNTAIN -- Daniel Duane Lusk, 22, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, in Lansing, Mich.
Daniel was born on Feb. 26, 2004, in Iron Mountain, to Brenda Marie Franklin and Dean Edwin Lusk. He spent much of his childhood growing up in West Lansing before finding his way back home to the Upper Peninsula in his late teens. Daniel later graduated with a diploma from Kingsford High School. After graduating, he returned to Lansing, where he lived with his father.
From the very beginning, Daniel brought laughter, energy, and an unmistakable presence into the lives of those who loved him.
When Daniel was born, the doctors predicted that he would grow to be 6-foot-4 in height, and his mom and dad jokingly decided right then that he would be their retirement plan. Sure enough, Daniel grew to be exactly 6-foot-4.
As a little boy, Daniel was incredibly sweet. He loved playing video games, looking up to his older siblings, and, like any true little brother, terrorizing the house with his boyish antics. As he grew older, that playful spirit never left him.
One of Daniel's favorite pastimes was fishing, and he found joy in the simple moments spent near the water with a fishing pole in hand appreciating nature around him.
Daniel was known for his witty sense of humor, his unforgettable laugh, and his tenacious smile. He had a way of making people laugh at any given moment and could find humor in almost any situation. Whether it was one of his funny faces, a perfectly timed joke, a quick rap made up on the spot, or the hilarious little hand movements and mannerisms that were uniquely Daniel, he knew how to make the people around him laugh.
Daniel is survived by his parents, Brenda Marie Franklin and Dean Edwin Lusk; his siblings, Christopher Lusk, Josiah (Darian) Lusk, Kandace (Jereme) Smith, Nathan (Megan) Lusk, Terry Quick III, and Haleigh Lusk; his grandmothers, Patricia Freeman and Fran (Romero) Lusk; and his nieces and nephews, Cerelia, Avalyn, Brinley, Sylvie, Leigha, and Luke, with another nephew expected to join the family in December. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Duane Freeman and Herald Lusk; his niece, Leyton; and his cousin, Rochelle.
Daniel's life ended far too soon, leaving a space in his family that can never truly be filled. We will remember the sweet little boy he once was, the 6-foot-4 young man he became, his funny faces and gestures, his quick wit, his unforgettable laugh, his love of fishing, his smile, and most of all, his heart.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Father Greg Heikkala will officiate.
