APPLETON, Wis. -- James W. Burrows, 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 31, 2026.
He was born on Feb. 22, 1956. Jim graduated from Kingsford High School with the Class of 1974, before beginning a lifetime of dedicated service to his country and community.
On July 29, 1978, Jim married the love of his life, Sandy Inglese, in Iron Mountain. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and unwavering support for one another.
Jim proudly served in the United States Army for 22 years, a career that took him and his family to duty stations around the world. His military service reflected his deep sense of honor, discipline, and commitment to others. Following his retirement from the Army, he continued his life of public service as an office manager with the Oshkosh Police Department, where he faithfully served the community for 18 years.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim embraced life with enthusiasm and a love for the outdoors.
Whether he was on the golf course, riding his motorcycle along scenic roads, hiking wooded trails, biking, or simply enjoying nature, he found joy in every opportunity to be outside.
More than anything, however, Jim treasured the time he spent with his family. His greatest happiness came from being with those he loved, especially his grandchildren, whose lives were enriched by his guidance, laughter, and unconditional love.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Burrows; his son, David (Krystal) Burrows and their children, Blake and Pierce Burrows; his daughter, Lindsey Burrows; aunt Betty Foster; cousin Jim Foster; brothers and sisters-in-law, Suzanne (John) Traber, Jim (Pam) Inglese, Tim (Becky) Inglese, Tom Inglese; stepsisters Lisa Celello, Marcia Thompson; and his lifelong friend, Ted Jensen.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Joyce and Michael Thompson; father William Burrows; in-laws Tony (Waive) Inglese and Joanne (Ray) Brisson; and his stepbrothers, Mike Thompson and Larry Thompson.
A celebration of life for Jim will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Rivery, 101 W. Edison Ave., Appleton, Wis.
Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home has been entrusted to assist the family during this time.
