Jason Honkala

CRYSTAL FALLS -- Jason Jack Honkala, 50, of Crystal Falls, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, after fighting stomach cancer.

Jason was a kind-hearted and loving son of Wendy (Brink) and Jack Honkala, a devoted father of Taylor and Sydney Honkala, a dedicated brother of Jodi (Ryan) Gallo, uncle of Jorian Gallo, a loving husband of Marissa Burke, and a loyal friend of many.

Jason was born on Jan. 10, 1976, and attended Forest Park High School, graduating with the Class of 1994.

He found his passion for building trades while taking classes with Jim Nocerini, and he went on to spend the rest of his life as a carpenter and/or concrete finisher.

He also enjoyed golfing on the weekends with his friends and daughters to pass time.

Jason will be remembered for his generosity, his eyes that reflected his kind heart, his love for bacon and burgers, his neverending hope for the Chicago Bears, and his skill at making the best Swedish pancakes.

Jason was preceded in death by his father, Jack Honkala.

Jason is survived by Wendy (Brink), Taylor and Sydney Honkala, Jodi (Ryan) Gallo, Jorian Gallo, and Marissa Burke.

Jason will live on in every story we tell, every picture we have, every memory we share, and in the pieces he left behind in everyone he met.

The family will have a celebration of life from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29.

Jason showed what true strength and SISU looks like. He never gave up, never stopped fighting, and his strength will live on in all of us, strong until the very end. XOXOXO.
