Ruby A. Marchaterre

IRON MOUNTAIN -- Ruby A. Marchaterre, 99, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at Evergreen Senior Living in Kingsford.

She was born on May 29, 1927, to Fred and Louise (Bushy) Marchaterre and grew up on a farm near Hermansville. After high school, she attended nursing school in Marquette before working as a nurse in Sault Ste. Marie and Green Bay, Wis., eventually spending many years at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Powers.

After the family retired from farming in the mid-1970s, they moved into town, and she and her twin sister Ruth nursed their parents during their last illnesses.

Ruby retired from nursing in 1989, and a few years later, she and Ruth moved to Iron Mountain, where they were parishioners at St. Mary Queen of Peace in Kingsford.

She is remembered for her strong will, capable management, and acerbic spirit. She was an exacting housekeeper and in her 90s was still keeping her and Ruth's home on Park Street spotless, cleaning it "inch by inch" as she once remarked. She loved puzzles, the outdoors, animals, snowmobiling, and hunting. In her last years she was a word search master.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; by her twin sister, Ruth; and by her brother, John Marchaterre.

She is survived by her nieces, John's daughters: Mary (Rick) Vilim, Ann (Scott) Hamilton, and Madeleine (Joel) Super. As Ruby lived to 99, many friends passed away before her, but in her later years she was close to and is remembered by Judy Mantta, Joan Miller, and Maria Kempany, and the family is grateful for all the generous help they gave her.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain, followed by a short service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Father Michael Woempner will officiate. Immediately following, she will be laid to rest in Meyer Township Cemetery in Hermansville.

Condolences may be expressed to the family of Ruby A. Marchaterre online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
