SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. -- Dr. Ray H. Cameron, 70, of Spread Eagle, Wis., passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, surrounded by family, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.
Ray was born on Sept. 27, 1955, in Ontonagon, son of Edward and Janice (Harnish) Cameron. Shortly after his birth, Ray's family moved to Milwaukee, and at the age of 6 he moved to Whitefish Bay, Wis., two houses away from Julie! Ray and Julie both attended Whitefish Bay High School, graduating in 1973, started dating one year later, and the couple married in 1978.
Ray received his bachelor of science in biochemistry from Northern Michigan University in 1977 before attending the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he received his Ph.D in anatomy in 1982.
He continued on to medical school, receiving his doctor of medicine in 1984. After finishing medical school, Ray and Julie moved to Durham, N.C., where Ray did his residency in otolaryngology at Duke University Hospital in Durham, finishing in 1989. That same year the family moved to Iron Mountain, where Ray had his own ENT practice for 30 years, serving the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Ray and his family lived in Norway for 30 years before moving to Spread Eagle.
Ray fully embraced his career as a physician. He was honored to have the most loyal office staff. Ray retired in 2019. He made the most of his new carefree life, which included pursuing his passion: golf. After 35 years of participating, he finally won his first Derby Days tournament on Aug. 8 of this year, and he parred his last round of golf at Pine Grove with a 72!
He also loved grouse and deer hunting with his three grown children, son-in-law, grandchildren and beloved Brittanys at his family hunting camp in Kenton. He was not only an avid downhill and cross country skier, but a certified scuba diver and enjoyed sailing during his years in North Carolina. Memories of ski trips out west are cherished by his kids. Ray also enjoyed listening to great music, ice fishing, riding his bike, walking his dogs, and a good hot sauna!
An Eagle Scout, Ray graduated with honors in college, graduate school, medical school and was a member of many honor societies. During his years on the board of DCH, he served on various committees such as the credentials, bylaws, and medical executives committee, along with the board of trustees, and as chief of the medical staff. He served as a faculty member at the Medical College of Wisconsin, published several medical journals, and participated in writing a segmental anatomy book. Ray also served on the board of Pine Grove Country Club.
Ray will be deeply missed by his family, friends and patients.
He is survived by his loving wife, Julie; his three children, Brian Cameron (Taylor Andrews) of Iron Mountain, Caroline (Brendan) Tuchowski of Negaunee, and Logan (Haley) Cameron of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a sister, Camille (Greg) McGovern of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Kinsley Rae and Kenton Brian Cameron and Sonny James and Bear Henry Cameron.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Dr. Scott Cameron (Mary Lou), in 2023.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford with Pastor Bob Malsack officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cameron Scholarship Fund for Norway High School students interested in pursuing a career in the health care field, or the Pine Grove Country Club Tree Replacement Fund.
The family would like to thank the phenomenal staff of doctors and nurses at both Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson Emergency Department and St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. A special thank you to Dr. Allison Meyer at St. Vincent's, you two clicked! Thank you also to the ambulance crew, flight crews, Florence County police, and the people who found him hurt and called 911!
