IRON RIVER -- Robert Krist Johnson, 67, of Iron River, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, after a five-year struggle with cancer.
He was born on Sept. 4, 1959, in Stambaugh, son of Robert and Sandra (Atanasoff) Johnson. Rob graduated in 1977 from Bradford High School in Kenosha, Wis., and attended Carthage College and University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Rob was an avid bar owner in Kenosha and in Long Lake at the Long Lake Bar and Grill. He also worked as supervisor for Krist Oil Company, where he retired in 2021. Rob was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian.
He enjoyed the outdoors, summers spent in the U.P. with his family and relatives, family get-togethers and feeding the deer and wildlife that visited his yard every day. Most of all Rob was an avid sports fan, supporting the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. He spent his childhood as a star football player and played baseball and then, as a young adult, he coached both football and baseball. His biggest enjoyment in life was riding his Harleys.
Rob is survived by his parents; sisters Vikki (Tom) Wendling of Union Grove, Wis., Jacquelyn Johnson; two very special nephews, Kyle Johnson-Peterson and Hunter Gorr Johnson; a very special niece, Valencia; his special uncles, Ron and Ray Atanasoff; his very close friend, Lori Seefeldt; his lifelong friends, Don, Joe, and Dave; along with many others.
Rob was preceded in death by his brother, Scott David Johnson; grandparents Krist and Louise Atanasoff and John and Nellie Johnson; and his godmother and very special aunt, Sally Roberts.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, with Father Danial Fosu to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
