CHICAGO -- Ryan William Gauthier, 41, of Chicago, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at the UP Health Systems-Marquette Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 21, 1985 in Green Bay, Wis., Ryan was the son of Daniel and Kristine Gauthier. Intelligent and inquisitive from a young age, he harbored a natural curiosity about how the world operated. He attended Bayport High School in Howard, Wis., where he excelled as a swimmer and graduated with high honors.
Ryan pursued higher education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a bachelor of science in computer science. His childhood enthusiasm for constructing with Legos and K'nex evolved into a professional career as a traveling computer engineer. Later, he established roots in Chicago, where he met Xun Pei. The couple wed in Chicago on July 9, 2016, sharing 10 more years together.
Remembered for his kind, contemplative, and quiet disposition, Ryan was an avid enthusiast of technology and "Star Wars." His home was filled with an army of Lego characters and builds that captured the interest of any visitors.
Ryan will be deeply missed by his wife, Xun; father Dan Gauthier; brother Nick Gauthier; grandfather Gerald Gauthier; many loving aunts and uncles; and his canine companion, Lego.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Kristine A. Gauthier; grandparents Carol Gauthier and Bill and Dee Noskey; and his father's significant other, Melody Thompson.
The funeral Mass will be at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church, 411 W. B St. in Iron Mountain on Oct. 14, with Father Janusz Romanek officiating at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens with his mother.
Ryan's family would like to thank the exceptional intensive care staff at UP Health Systems-Marquette and the Mariucci Family Beacon House for several weeks of care and compassion provided to the family.
