NORWAY -- Joan Victoria Maahs, 71, was welcomed peacefully into Heaven on Oct. 15, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.
Joan was born June 27, 1955, at the Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming, daughter of the late Victor and Daphne (Dally) Maahs. Joan and family moved to Petoskey, Mich., in the early 1960s, where she graduated from the Petoskey High School in 1973.
Joan worked at the Traverse Bay Hospital in Petoskey for several years until in 1986, when Joan and her family relocated to Norway, to be closer to family.
Joan worked as a receptionist for many years with Dr. Hayes and Dr. Atkinson at their office in Norway.
Joan met Douglas DeGroot, the Love of Her Life and partner for over 40 years.
She enjoyed the fall season with the beautiful colors, visiting Toronto, sightseeing, gardening, crafting, riding her motorcycle with the sidecar, and especially enjoying her family and her sweet Pups.
Joan is survived by her brother, Dale (Sharon) Maahs of Vulcan, and Wendy (Richard) Elder of Norway; her life partner, Douglas DeGroot of Norway; and several nieces and nephews that she adored very much; and her beloved pups, Pablo, Tyty and Cece.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Terry Joseph Maahs.
Joan was an angel on Earth, kind, caring, soft hearted, and loved by all that knew her. She will be sadly missed.
The family would like to thank St. Vincent Hospital and Unity Hospice for their wonderful care of Joan.
According to Joan's final wishes, no formal funeral services will be held.
