John Mente

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- John Roger Mente, 82, passed away in his home in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Aug. 21, 2026.

He was born to John and Dorothy (Ouimette) Mente on March 6, 1944. Roger spent his high school and college years at the Salvatorian Seminary at Saint Nazianz, Wis. He held a degree in bachelor of science work and attended NMU for 1½ years. Roger also spent four years in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-1972, serving at Eglin AFB in Florida.

He married Pamela Conner in the 1970s; she preceded him in death on May 13, 2010.

Roger worked 40 years at the Department of Veteran Affairs in Cincinnati, as a veterans benefit counselor. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, fishing and decorating.

Roger is survived by his two stepsons, Danny Willis and Kenneth Willis; a stepdaughter, Shaunna Willis; two sisters, Marie (Jim) Blanton and Cindy Steele; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela; his parents, John and Dorothy Mente; a brother, Jeffery; uncles Bernard, Paul and Raymond Mente and LeRoy and Dick Ouimette; aunts Mary Provencher and Louise Mente; and a stepson, Phillip Willis.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Father Greg Heikkala will offer the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
