IRON MOUNTAIN -- Max Andrew Collins, known to friends as Andy, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, at the age of 56. He was born on March 28, 1970.
Max was a charismatic presence who had a gift for making friends wherever he went. He lived most of his life in Iron Mountain, though he grew up in Williams Bay, Wis.
What people remembered most about Max was his humor, his hard work ethic, his genuine desire to make those around him smile and laugh with his wit and, as he would put it, "useful useless informative knowledge." He had a way of lighting up a room, and he used that gift to bring joy to everyone he knew.
For those that knew him, remember him at his best: his warmth, his humor, his dedication.
Above all, Max was devoted to his children: Shane (Alexandra), Kaitlin (Justin) Mongar-Sliva, Logan, Drew, Violet, and Lily. He was committed to passing on his wisdom to them, knowing that the lessons and laughter they shared would outlast any single moment. He was proud to be a grandfather to many grandchildren: Regan, Rosina, Rorik, Lucas, Oliver, Palmer, Tatum, Aaron, and Eli.
Max is survived by his mother, Sandra "Sandy," and his sister, Julie (Matt) Jackowski.
He was preceded in death by his father William "Bill"; his sister, Lisa; and his son, Logan.
Max's legacy lives on in his commitment to bringing light to the lives of those he loved.
The family would like to sincerely thank everyone who has reached out with messages, prayers, condolences, and support during this difficult time. Every kind word and expression of love has meant more than can be expressed.
Max will be cremated, and his ashes will be held and ultimately spread by his immediate family. A celebration of Max's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can come together to remember and celebrate the life of a man at his best.
