IRON MOUNTAIN -- Robert Joseph Menza, 79, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.

He was born April 9, 1947, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Steiner) Menza. Bob attended Iron Mountain schools and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1965. Following high school, he attended Northern Michigan University.

Bob served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He married the former Gayle Erickson in November of 1971, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 1995. He later married Anne Danielson on May 24, 1997.

Bob worked as a manager of several grocery stores throughout the Upper Peninsula, including Super One Foods, formerly Red Owl Foods, in Iron Mountain. He was a loyal member and treasurer of U.P. Whitetails, an organization he was proud to support.

After retiring, Bob volunteered his time at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain and enjoyed taking many day trips with his wife. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Bob was an avid golfer and a member of Oak Crest Golf Course in Norway. One of his favorite daily pastimes was tending his garden. He took great pride in growing and cultivating fresh vegetables, as well as caring for his raspberry patch. He especially enjoyed picking the berries and counting how many he was able to harvest each time.

Bob and Anne spent many winters enjoying the sunshine and warmth of Florida, which gave them the opportunity to be close to Marissa and her family. They enjoyed trips to Disney World and cherished watching their grandchildren experience the magic of Disney.

Bob was always ready to enjoy a Detroit Tigers game and remained a diehard Green Bay Packers fan through the good times and the bad. Above all, he was a devoted supporter of his grandchildren and their many activities. He loved watching them compete in person whenever he could, and when distance kept him away, he cherished a FaceTime call so he could still share in their special moments.

Bob is survived by his wife, Anne, of Iron Mountain; son Chad (Kathryn) Menza of Kingsford; daughter Marissa (Scott) Walter of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; four grandchildren, Maren Menza, Lucas Menza, Oliver Walter, and Henry Walter; and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his stepson, Ryan Danielson of Iron Mountain; stepdaughter Tara (Matt) Tauriainen of Green Bay; and sister Marianne Menza of Lakeville, Minn.

Bob was preceded in death by one sister, Marlene (Jon) Davison of Lakeville.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. A private family service will follow.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the VA Hospital.
