Good work, good people at DCHS

EDITOR:

I was just thinking this on my way here this morning, and I thought I would share my 2 cents.

With everything going on at Dickinson County Healthcare System, I think it’s very easy to point the finger, to say, “I would never do that” or to place blame on one group, one person, one department. We’ve all read the Facebook posts of individuals who have no experience in business, let alone the very complex business of health care. I’ll admit it myself — it gets me upset, it makes me lose sleep and it makes my anxiety skyrocket. I know this past year or so it’s been difficult at best — should I go on that vacation? Should I purchase a vehicle that my family needs? Should I make the repairs to my house? Living in “limbo” isn’t easy for anyone.

But … on my way in this morning, I took a step back. There is something to be said for all of us who show up each and every day with smiles on our faces. Yes, we are uncertain of what the future holds and sometimes it feels like we are “gambling” our future by staying here, but what keeps us here is the fact that we all put our lives into this business — yes, the majority of you have been here much longer than myself — and enjoy the work we do. We take care of our neighbors, our friends, oftentimes each other.

For as much as we have hard days, we have the good days, too. We’ve seen each other grow up here, get married, have children, have grandchildren. We are family.

I am still proud of the work we accomplish. I am still proud of the care we provide. I am still proud that we have remained an independent community hospital. I am proud of each and every one of you, the expertise you bring to the table.

I hope at the very least my 2 cents can help in some small way today. I just felt impelled to write something to you all today.
