SAY Soccer needs volunteers

SAY Soccer started in our area about 1980. By 1992, we had more than 2,000 kids on our rosters.

All kids who sign up get on a team and all players must play half a game. It is a great sport for this reason and many others.

In 2019, we had 1,200 players. Many of the SAY board members are coaches as well. Some even coach two teams. We are in need of volunteers in any capacity. Board members, coaches and referees are the main needs. Prior experience is not required to help out.

The board meets once a month, on the first Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Aurora Town Hall. You must attend five meetings to become a board member and then you can vote on policies.

To become a coach, all you need is the desire to work with kids. During preseason, you can meet three times a week for practice. When the season starts there are two games each week and one possible practice. The season lasts for five weeks.

As a coach, you will receive a SAY rule book and are encouraged — though it is not mandatory — to attend a free referee clinic to help understand the rules of the game.

As a first-year coach, this is a great time to learn the rules and ask questions; it will help you become a better coach.

Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or even a friend in the community — we need your help this year. Without more volunteers, SAY Soccer is at risk of no longer being available in our area. Please, do not let this happen!
