Facing ‘the toughest game’

Recently, I came across a quote from the poet Edgar Guest in a poem titled, “On Quitting”: “The toughest game you will find is to make your body obey your mind.”

The words are like a bolt of lightning in how they sum up life that all of us experience every day. How many times each day does the mind say to us to clean this, fix that, work out more, read that book, contact an old friend or relative we have been out of touch with, etc., yet we fail to do so.

Every single day we play this game and often fail to win.

I can assure you that if you repeat these words to yourself every day, you will continue to lose, as it’s only human nature to do so.

I can also assure you if you repeat these words every day, you will have more victories than defeats.
