A special day of recognition for Vietnam vets

EDITOR:

This was taken from an American Legion article:

“Sunday, March 29, is Vietnam War Veterans Day. This is a day when we pay special tribute to the nine million Americans who served during the Vietnam War era, to the 58,000 names memorialized on the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., and to those who never received the recognition they deserved when they returned home to America from the war.

“As we know, when Vietnam War veterans returned home, they were unwelcomed. Sadly, we cannot change the actions of the past; however, we can show our support and gratitude today. Something that should have happened over fifty years ago.

“Three years ago, President Trump signed into law the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017. This established a National Vietnam War Veterans Day that is observed every March 29.

“The days, weeks and months following March 29, let us, as American citizens, not forget to continue to thank our Vietnam veterans, and veterans from all wars.”
