Appreciation for corrections officers’ work

National Corrections Officers Week is May 3 through 9. It’s important, especially this year with what we’re facing with our health emergency, to honor the corrections officers who serve us in our jails and prisons.

Marinette County is fortunate to have a good staff of both officers and support personnel who work around the clock every day of the year. The role of the modern-day corrections officer has evolved into a multifaceted position in public safety. We are well served here in Marinette County and our positive annual inspections reports are a testimonial largely due to the efforts of our corrections officers.

As President Ronald Reagan proclaimed in 1984, “The important work of our nation’s corrections officers often does not receive the recognition from the public it deserves.”

Therefore, it is most appropriate this year to thank our corrections officers for their work and recognize these men and women who play a vital role in our system of criminal justice and public safety.
