Businesses A, B and C

I’m not a business person, but sometimes businesses do things that don’t make sense to me. Maybe someone can help me make some sense of this scenario?

Business A and B are both selling the same product. Their customer base is similar and they operate in the same geographical region, they are located just a few hours distance from each other.

Business A sells out their entire first offering of the product, so they make a second offering that is also well received by the consumer and sells well. Business B has barely sold any of their first offering of the product and still has a lot on hand. Remember the product is the same; however the two businesses have taken different approaches in how they package, present, price and market the product to the consumer. Business A has obviously made the product much more appealing to the consumer which reflects in their successful sales.

Now Business C comes along and decides they want to get into the market selling the same product. They are also located in the same geographical region as A and B and are only a few hours distance from both. Business C takes note of the difference in the sales between the other two businesses, yet decides to adopt the same approach to selling the product that Business B is using. I’m confused, wouldn’t Business C want to be as successful as Business A? Am I missing something?

As I said, I am not a business person, but I am a consumer. I’ve been interested in purchasing this product and have looked at buying it from both Business A and B. Even though the product is the same I found Business A’s offering much more appealing and found Business B’s offering unappealing. Knowing that Business C was planning to sell the same product I delayed my purchase until theirs was available, especially since C is closer to where I live.

Now that I have three choices to purchase the product from I am ready to buy. I’ve finalized my purchase from Business A and my check is in the mail.
