A perfect example

Dante Moore, one of the two top quarterback recruits in the country graduating this year, was originally thought to be attending the University of Michigan. Then he announced he would be attending the University of Oregon and gave the school a verbal commitment. All of sudden, he changed his mind and has signed a letter of intent to attend UCLA. Why the changes of heart? Anyone’s guess; quite honestly, I couldn’t care less. The point being it is a perfect example of how our society has changed.

Many years ago, Stefan Humphries, a young black man from Florida was recruited by Bo Schembechler at Michigan and gave the coach and university a verbal commitment. He was an offensive lineman. He then decided he would rather attend Notre Dame. His father sat him down for a talk. He told him, you gave Coach Schembechler your word you are going to Michigan and your word is supposed to mean something. The young man went to Michigan. After graduating, he played a few years in the NFL. Now he is a medical director at a hospital in Reno, Nevada.

Is it any wonder why our society has declined through the years. The first athlete is now the norm. The story of Dr. Humphries used to be.
